What is electrical testing?

The condition of all electrical installations will deteriorate over time, so it’s essential that they’re tested and inspected on a regular basis, by a competent electrician.

Such inspections assess the level of deteriation, and whether any work is required to bring your installation up to a condition making it safe for ongoing use.

Think of an Electrical Condition Report as a bit like an MOT for your electrics. Sometimes work will be required, but the end goal is achieving a safe standard.

Competent and qualified

I’m qualified to City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing), and up to speed on all current regulations and requirements.

A lot of electricians offering testing do not have this qualification, or any relevant experience, and may not pick up on something very important to the safety of your installation.

How often do I need testing?

Here’s how often you should get your electrics tested:

  • Domestic properties: Every ten years
  • Rented domestic properties: Every five years
  • Commercial properties: Typically every five years, but it’s dependent on usage
